Friday, March 5th, 2010

Do you feel like you’re caught in a trap, one so strong that you just can’t walk out? Is it because you love Elvis memorabilia too much? I can empathize; my mind doesn’t grow suspicious when you proclaim your love for all things Elvis. I can see what they’re doing to you, and I do believe every word you say. Well you are not alone. Collectibles which have anything to do at all with Elvis Presley have been wildly popular for years. They continue today to captivate collectors and Presley fans from around the world.

The range of memorabilia is wide. From strange to clever to downright expensive, you can find pretty much anything. In 2009, at an auction of a few of Presley’s personal items, a bidder paid over $200,000 for a blue jumpsuit with cape and gold lining which had been worn by Elvis at Madison Square Garden in 1972. A ring of 14K gold and diamonds featuring the face of an owl went for $40,000.

Do not worry; not all collectibles will cost so much. Online auction and retail outlets are great places to look for great bargains on some nice Elvis merchandise. Check regularly as inventory is always changing. Other good places to search are flea markets and yard sales.

Fathers Day Gift Ideas

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

It can seem that most parents out there already have everything they need. However, this can make the process of trying to decide what gift ideas for dad will work a difficult one. After all, they have had years to buy whatever they might need and this means that when you are thinking about getting them something as a gift, you will need to make it something special. One of the first things you should consider when looking at gifts is whether or not they collect something. It is not uncommon for a person to have an existing collection of items that they are constantly working to keep in place.

One such example of something that your dad might want for a gift is a Zippo lighter. Zippos are really an exceptional item that many people have collected over the years. There is a variety of different Zippos and styles, so you will be able to pick out one that reflects your father’s personality as an individual. Plus, one of the interesting features about giving these items as gifts is the fact that you can usually have them engraved so that they are even more personalized, even more than most other presents you can give to them. You can also get them an antique version of the Zippo lighter if you want to get them something a little different.

Snow Globes are Perect for Collecting Year Round

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Snow globes popularized in the early 1800’s were made as paperweights. But eventually people started to realize their aesthetic value and started collecting them to be used as home dcor or for business. These snow globes are also known as snow domes, snow shakers, water domes, and blizzard weights. You will need to familiarize yourself on facts about these things if you are interested in collecting them.

Today most of the snow globes are made almost entirely out of plastic. They are also mass-produced. But you can still find those handcrafted snow globes if you know where to look. Depending on their origin and the detail put in making them, these blizzard weights may differ in price considerably. For example, the ones made in the early 1900’s in France would have a ceramic or marble base, a glass dome, and the snow are from chips of ceramic and bones. These, if found in good condition, would go for a very high price. While the once sold in gasoline stations with light weight plastic bases, domes and chips would normally go for less than $3.
