Reading to Your Children

Monday, September 7th, 2009

Literacy is becoming a serious issue in modern America that is largely the result of children not getting the early life attention that prepares them to begin reading at an early age. Reading to your child is a great way to share the books that you grew up reading with your own children.

Taking the time to read aloud to your children, whether at bedtime or throughout the day, will spark an early interest in reading because they see it as something that their parents value, and at early ages children tend to idolize and emulate their parents. You should encourage them to ask questions about words that they do not know the meaning of so that you can increase their vocabularies and encourage their inquisitive natures.

Getting your child to read isnt the only benefit of reading aloud to them. By taking the time out of your busy schedule to share a story or two with your children, experts believe that you will actually prepare your children for a proper education and help them to become successful and intelligent adults.
