Reading to Your Children
Literacy is becoming a serious issue in modern America that is largely the result of children not getting the early life attention that prepares them to begin reading at an early age. Reading to your child is a great way to share the books that you grew up reading with your own children.
Taking the time to read aloud to your children, whether at bedtime or throughout the day, will spark an early interest in reading because they see it as something that their parents value, and at early ages children tend to idolize and emulate their parents. You should encourage them to ask questions about words that they do not know the meaning of so that you can increase their vocabularies and encourage their inquisitive natures.
Getting your child to read isnt the only benefit of reading aloud to them. By taking the time out of your busy schedule to share a story or two with your children, experts believe that you will actually prepare your children for a proper education and help them to become successful and intelligent adults.
Children tend to enjoy stories that they are familiar with and may want to hear the same story over and over again each day. While it is not a bad thing to repeat a story occasionally, constantly repeating the same stories will not encourage growth in your childs reading abilities as they will know all of the words in the story, and will not have to think about what happens as they already know the plot and outcome.
If you vary the books that you read to your children you will inspire them to see and consider new concepts and new ideas, and over time this will foster an inquisitive and accepting nature in them. Introducing new concepts and ideas will slowly help them to overcome an aversion to what is unfamiliar and encourage them to explore literature on their own.
Illiteracy is a great problem in America these days. In battle against it the nation is powerless – but the individual is mighty. It all starts in the early childhood days, and for that reason, we at http://mychildbook.com would like to give you additional weapon.
